How It Works

From Plan Upload to
Compliance Clarity.

Upload your architectural plans and receive a structured National Construction Code compliance review. We identify likely Deemed-to-Satisfy (DTS) departures, flag compliance issues, and scope where Performance Solutions may be required.

The Process

Three Steps to Compliance Clarity

1

Upload Your Plan Set

Create an account and upload your architectural plans as PDFs. Floor plans, elevations, sections, schedules — we accept complete plan sets for all building classes. No special formatting or templates required.

2

Automated Compliance Review

Your plans are analysed against National Construction Code provisions relevant to the building's classification. The review identifies likely DTS departures, documentation gaps, notation issues, and areas where Performance Solutions may be required.

3

Structured Issue Summary

The review produces a categorised issue summary. Where Performance Solution items are identified, Performance Solutions Australia is automatically notified to prepare a quote — typically within 2 business days.

The Four Categories

How Findings Are Categorised

Every finding falls into one of four categories. The category tells you who needs to act, and what they need to do.

Performance Solution

A design choice physically departs from a Deemed-to-Satisfy threshold. Compliance can still be achieved — through a Performance Solution prepared by a qualified practitioner.

Example: A balustrade dimensioned at 760 mm where the National Construction Code requires 865 mm. The wall stays at 760 mm; a Performance Solution justifies why the lower height meets the relevant Performance Requirement.

→ Engage a Performance Solution practitioner. PSA is automatically notified and prepares a quote.

Non-Compliance

A mandatory National Construction Code requirement is breached and no Performance Solution pathway exists. The design must be physically rectified.

Example: A swimming pool drawn with no compliant barrier and no AS 1926 reference anywhere. This cannot be argued away — a barrier must be installed.

→ Rectify the design before construction or occupation.

Documentation Required

Compliance cannot be confirmed from the plans alone. A specific document or specification is missing, and once provided the item resolves either way.

Example: No NatHERS energy report or Section J assessment in the plan set. Without it, energy compliance cannot be assessed against Part 13 / Section J.

→ Source the missing document from the relevant specialist (energy assessor, hydraulic engineer, etc.).

Plan Issue

A drawing omission or notation error the designer should correct. The compliance condition is probably fine — the plans just don't show it clearly enough to verify.

Example: A wet area shown without the AS 3740 waterproofing extent annotated, or smoke alarm symbols missing from the electrical layout.

→ Update the drawings. No Performance Solution required.

Your Output

What You Receive

Every codereview.au project produces a structured issue summary designed for clarity and action.

Structured Issue Summary

Each identified issue is listed with its National Construction Code clause reference, category, location within the plan set, and a clear description. Designed to be scannable and directly actionable.

DTS Departure Flags

Where plans likely depart from Deemed-to-Satisfy provisions, each departure is flagged with its relevant National Construction Code reference so you understand exactly what may need resolution.

Performance Solution Scoping

Issues likely to require a Performance Solution are identified with recommended report types — fire engineering, access compliance, waterproofing, energy, or other specialist areas.

Direct Path to PSA Quote

When Performance Solution items are identified, the project is automatically forwarded to Performance Solutions Australia for a quote. PSA contacts you typically within 2 business days.

What codereview.au Is and Isn't

Honest contrasts so you know exactly what you're paying for — and what you still need to source elsewhere.

Does

Run a structured National Construction Code compliance review of architectural plan sets across all building classes.

Doesn't

Replace a registered building surveyor, building certifier, or specialist consultant where the law requires one.

Does

Identify likely Deemed-to-Satisfy departures, documentation gaps, plan issues, and Performance Solution candidates.

Doesn't

Issue a formal National Construction Code compliance opinion, certificate, or building approval of any kind.

Does

Flag where Performance Solutions are likely required and forward those projects to PSA for a quote.

Doesn't

Design or write the Performance Solutions itself. Those are produced under a separate engagement with PSA — or any qualified practitioner you choose.

Does

Give architects, building designers, and certifiers early-stage clarity to support better design and assessment decisions.

Doesn't

Make engineering judgements that require site inspection, geotechnical data, or fire-engineering modelling.

Does

Reference clauses from National Construction Code 2025 — Volume One, Volume Two, and the Housing Provisions.

Doesn't

Cover state-specific local government overlays, planning consent, heritage controls, or non-NCC standards beyond those referenced by the National Construction Code.

Outputs are advisory and intended for early-stage compliance scoping. Where a formal compliance opinion is required, engage a registered certifier or specialist consultant.
